TOP POINT GUARD
DETROIT, MI, April 5, 2013 -- The Rotary Club of Detroit announced today that University of Notre Dame senior Skylar Diggins has been selected as the 2013 Nancy Lieberman Award winner. The award recognizes the nation’s top collegiate point guard in women’s Division I basketball. The criteria for the award are the floor leadership, play-making and ball-handling skills that personified Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman during her career. Sportswriters from across the country determined the award winner and finalists.
The three finalists (in alphabetical order) are: Alex Bentley (Penn State), Lindsey Moore (Nebraska), Odyssey Sims (Baylor).
Diggins, the 5-9 point guard, currently averages 17.3 ppg and leads the BIG EAST conference in assists (6 apg). She has helped lead Notre Dame (35-1) to its third consecutive NCAA Women’s Final Four appearance.
This is the second consecutive season that she has earned a spot on the Associated Press first-team, John R. Wooden Award and United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-America Teams. It is also the second consecutive season winning The Nancy Lieberman Award.
